April Cottage Cattery is situated in the village of Milden in Suffolk, 7 miles from Sudbury and Hadleigh and 3 1/2 miles from Lavenham.
April Cottage Cattery is purpose built with the intention of providing a comfortable, warm safe and secure environment for our feline guests. All our chalets are fully insulated and have individual thermostatically heated sleeping areas, the outside runs are covered but are light and airy with full height sneeze barriers.
Shelves are provided to sit on and watch what is going on around the rest of the cattery, or watch the goings on outside through the large windows at the front.
All the chalets are enclosed in one building protecting them from harsh winter wind and rain and the heat of the summer sun.
Access to all the chalets is via lockable doors into the safety corridor, and strict procedures are followed to ensure all doors to the outside are always closed before any of the chalet doors are opened to prevent any of our guests leaving unexpectedly! There is a CCTV in operation which can be viewed from the office, house or mobile phone enabling us to monitor the goings on and any visitors to the cattery at all times
Staffed by a husband and wife team we endeavour to keep a “Home from Home” atmosphere with the highest standard of comfort and security for our feline guests. We are experienced in looking after cats of all kinds having had our own for over 30 years, and we have been involved with cat rescue and re-homing for the last 10 years.
April Cottage Cattery was built and completed in March 2016 and has been designed in accordance with FAB (Feline Advisory Bureau) guidelines and complies with CIEH (Chartered Institute of Environmental Health) and local council regulations.
We are inspected yearly and licenced with Babergh District council under Licence No: LN/000000929 and have been awarded a 3 star rating. We have been downgraded from a 5 to a 3 from 1st April 2025 because I do not agree with having opaque barriers between the chalets over 600mm high. I have clear barriers at this height so that all cats can see around the cattery at all times. After the initial hissing and spitting when they meet their new neighbours, cats settle down and find it reassuring to see other cats doing what cats do naturally, eating, sleeping, sunbathing, playing with their toys etc. In the 9 years we have had our cattery, I have only had to put a towel up over the partition once and that was only for 2 days after that the cats had settled down and were happy to lie on their shelves in view of their neighbours.
